Gratitude
October 2007
With Thanksgiving
coming soon I think it's important to remember the
real meaning of this time of year. Sometimes it seems
much easier to focus on what we do not have, or what
we want to have, or what others seem to have. That is
such a potentially painful path to walk. You set
yourself up for suffering by focusing on external
things.
The truth in any moment is only what you are at that moment. I may think I need that new coat, or I need that person to do this certain thing but really I don't. More often than not I get caught up in the moment, not in an authentic real way, but in a 'going along with modern life' kind of way. But I find that those desires for external things, or attainment of them do not make me happy. The only true way to be happy is to be present and see all that you have right in front of you. When I do that I see that I am rich beyond my wildest dreams. I have love and am able to love, I have laughter, I have a warm place to call home and I know I'll never go hungry. I have my health and the rewards of helping others attain optimum health. My family is happy and healthy. I am very blessed. All that I need is right in front of me.
Quote of the month:
"One single grateful thought raised to heaven is the most perfect prayer." G.E. Lessing
